First Stage of Lycian Way
Day 1:
Transfer from Dalaman airport to 4 star standard Sea Breeze Hotel & Apartments. Welcome drinks and introduction to trek. Dinner at hotel.

Day 2:
A great introduction to the area commencing at Amyntas rock tombs in Fethiye, fine examples of Lycian tombs carved into the rock face overlooking the harbour. From here we walk out of town and join up with a Roman paved road that leads us over the hill to Kaya village. Views over the valley to the deserted Greek Orthodox village on the opposite hillside make the climb worthwhile. We walk through the farmed valley bustling with village life to a cafe for lunch. Time to explore the many deserted houses and churches before continuing up over the hill to Oludeniz. Breathtaking views of crystal clear bays make for many photo opportunities with the finale view of the blue lagoon at Oludeniz. We walk down to the shores of the lagoon to meet our vehicle. Swimming if time permits.

  • Approx. 6 hrs trekking
  • Medium difficulty
  • Uneven paths with some loose scree and some steep ascents
  • Pack swimming gear

Day 3:
Today we commence walking from the original starting point of the Lycian Way. We are immediately treated to views over Oludeniz and out over the Mediterranean while pine forest soon gives way to maquis as we ascend to the village of Kozagac. Evidence of goat herding along the way and the possibility of spotting soaring birds of prey - and soaring paragliders! Here we see the remains of a massive rockslide, a result of the 1957 earthquake. We continue through fields to the tiny hamlet of Kirme and on via cobbled paths to the lush, green village of Faralya, reknowned locally for its tasty fruit and vegetables. A walk parallel to the sea with sweeping sea views then brings us to the end of the road and our accommodation in Kabak village.

  • Approx. 6 hrs trekking
  • Village lunch
  • Medium difficulty
  • Long gradual ascent to Kozagac, path uneven

Day 4:
We leave our accommodation to commence a steep ascent above Kabak beach. Frequent breaks will give us time to look back at the breathtaking views. We pass by springs and rock slides until our climb ends in an olive grove with exceptional views. From here an easier walk brings us to the village of Alinca and we continue on to Sidyma where we have time to explore this infrequently visited ancient site. Spot bits of ruins built into the walls of the village mosque!

  • Approx. 7 hrs trekking
  • Packed lunch
  • Medium difficulty
  • Steep ascent to Alinca
  • Village accommodation

Day 5:
This morning our vehicle takes us back to Sidyma to re-connect with our path which today leads through fields and villages before we arrive at Pydnai ruins, where our vehicle awaits us. Archaeological research suggests that Pydnai was a naval and military base fortress to the west of Patara. From here we transfer down to Patara for the night. Although now marshland, Patara was once a deep water harbour and the ancient site is said to be a larger city than Ephesus but much is still buried under sand dunes.

  • Approx. 6 hrs trekking
  • Packed lunch
  • Easy to medium difficulty
  • Overnight 3 star hotel

Day 6:
This morning a short road transfer takes us to the head of our trail. A meandering trek through pheasant-inhabited maquis gives us glimpses of the Patara aqueduct as we follow it to the wonderful Delikkemer. This is remarkable for its interlocking blocks carved to form a sealed water pipe, which is supported over a valley on a huge stone wall - a stunning example of Roman engineering. The aqueduct continues through olive groves and disappears occasionally into fields before re-emerging at intervals. Our trek ends back at our pension leaving time for optional exploration of Patara or a visit to the beach.

  • Approx. 4 hrs trekking
  • Packed lunch
  • Easy to medium difficulty with uneven paths
  • Overnight 3 star hotel

Day 7:
After breakfast our transport takes us to Üzümlü village where today's trek commences. Winding along hillside paths with views out over Patara beach we pass through olive groves before reaching Inpinar, the spring source that fed the Xanthos aqueduct. The remainder of the trek follows the ancient aqueduct via lush villages and olive groves before ending at a cemetery with some interesting tombstones. Our vehicle meets us for a transfer to the ancient site of Xanthos where there is time to learn its tragic history before our final destination of Letoon, home of the Leto temple. From here a transfer brings us back to our starting point, Sea Breeze Hotel.

  • Approx. 4 hrs trekking plus visiting sites
  • Packed lunch
  • Easy to medium difficulty with uneven paths
