Six Days of Guided Walks Around Fethiye

Day 1: Fethiye – Kayakoy -  Oludeniz
A great introduction to the area commencing at Amyntas rock tombs in Fethiye, fine examples of Lycian tombs carved into the rock face overlooking the harbour. From here we walk out of town and join up with a Roman paved road that leads us over the hill to Kaya village. Views over the valley to the deserted Greek Orthodox village on the opposite hillside make the climb worthwhile. We walk through the farmed valley bustling with village life to a cafe for lunch. Time to explore the many deserted houses and churches before continuing up over the hill to Oludeniz. Breathtaking views of crystal clear bays make for many photo opportunities with the finale view of the blue lagoon at Oludeniz. We walk down to the shores of the lagoon to meet our return vehicle. Swimming if time permits.

  • Approx. 6 hrs trekking
  • Village restaurant lunch
  • Medium difficulty
  • Uneven paths with some loose scree and some steep ascents
  • Pack swimming gear

Day 2: Ovacik – Kozagac – Faralya
Today we commence walking from Sea Breeze's front door, making our way to the original starting point of the Lycian Way. We are immediately treated to views over Oludeniz and out over the Mediterranean while pine forest soon gives way to maquis as we ascend to the village of Kozagac. Evidence of goat herding along the way and the possibility of spotting soaring birds of prey - and soaring paragliders! Here we see the remains of a massive rockslide, a result of the 1957 earthquake. We continue through fields to the hamlet of Kirme and on via cobbled paths to the lush green village of Faralya, renowned locally for its tasty fruit and vegetables. Panoramic vistas abound on our return journey along the coast hugging road.

  • Approx. 6 hrs trekking
  • Village lunch
  • Medium difficulty
  • Long gradual ascent to Kozagac, path uneven

Day 3: Cavdir – Üzümlü - Delikkemer
An early morning drive brings us to the village of Cavdir where we commence another section of the Lycian Way. Our route follows the remains of an ancient aqueduct to its source through lush valleys and villages fed by spring waters. Olive groves, orchards and views out over Patara beach make for very pleasant trekking and photography. An afternoon trek takes us to Delikkemer where there is time to wonder over the great Roman engineering of this section of Patara's aqueduct. Transfer back to Sea Breeze.

  • Approx. 6 hrs trekking
  • Packed lunch
  • Easy to medium difficulty
  • Uneven paths with undergrowth

Day 4: Kaya Peninsula: Afkule Monastery, Hach Beli, Turunc.
After breakfast a vehicle takes us to the head of the trail leading to Afkule monastery. A short trek takes us over a coastal hill down to the remains of the monastery said to have been built into the cliffs overlooking the entrance to the Gulf of Fethiye by a solitary monk. The setting is stunning and Rhodes can be seen from here on a clear day. After some exploring we return up the slope and trek through the forest to the ruined Byzantine church of Hach Beli, before following the trail to Turunc Pinar, with its freshwater springs and wonderful views. A glorious resting place before tackling the steep track to the beach. Here we will be collected by a boat for a swim break before being taken to Fethiye where our vehicle and driver will be waiting.

  • Approx. 4 hrs 30 minutes trekking
  • Packed lunch
  • Track down to monastery and beach at Turunc steep and loose underfoot
  • Medium with some difficult places
  • Pack swimming gear

Day 5: Alinca – Kabak - Faralya
Today’s trek commences at Alinca village, situated on the Lycian Way, perched on cliffs with the most incredible panoramas out over the Mediterranean. Sometimes walkers meet shepherds and their flocks. There are also opportunities to see beehives: later in the year honey is produced from the red pine trees in this area. This is a different world from the tourist resorts at sea level! Enjoy the breathtaking views before we commence winding down the coastal cliffs passing by several springs. We rest for lunch near Kabak village before walking parallel with the coast towards Faralya village where our transport waits.

  • Approx. 5 hrs trekking
  • Packed lunch
  • Steep, uneven track down to Kabak
  • Medium to diffficult

Day 6: Cadianda
We have an interesting walk ahead of us today from Uzumlu Village to the less touristic but ancient site of Cadianda. We may observe raptors, small birds and numerous plant species. We start in the back streets of Üzümlü and commence our climb via a forest track, passing by a shepherd's hut. We are soon greeted by panoramic views out over Fethiye and its bay before a steep climb up to the site of Cadianda. Inside the ancient Roman walls of Cadianda we have time to explore ancient water cisterns, stadium,  theatre, necropolis, stoa and agora. We find a spot for lunch before heading down to Hector’s Tomb. This is a fine example, cut from rock and decorated with reliefs. A winding track takes us back down to Uzumlu village which is renowned for its attractive traditional loom weaving or Dastar.
